Kashmir / India
The historical origins of Kashmir silk carpets date back around 400 years. At that time, carpet weavers were brought to India from the Persian Empire with the intention of making luxurious carpets for the Indian Mughal rulers. This tradition has been maintained in the Kashmir region to this day. Today, Kashmir silk carpets are made in Srinagar, the largest city and summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir in north-west India. Kashmir carpets are not only functional as floor coverings, but also works of art that represent the craftsmanship and cultural tradition of the region. They are often prized as valuable collector's items and can enhance rooms with elegance and traditional charm.
Hand-knotted
This Kashmir silk rug is created in India by the skilful hands of experienced craftsmen who express their art in intricate handwork. The use of traditional weaving techniques allows artistic designs and patterns to be incorporated into the rug, emphasising its uniqueness. The outstanding quality and purity of the silk are not only decisive for the price, but also for the longevity of this rug, which is one of the most exquisite of its kind in the world.
Pure silk
Silk is the luxury fibre for the manufacture of carpets. The production of the fibre itself is complex and cost-intensive. Silk fibre is one of the most hard-wearing natural fibres in carpet production. Its robustness and soft feel make it the ideal material for carpets. Due to the fact that the silk fibre is very thin, the knotting density of these carpets is particularly high and the typical pile height is low. This gives the motifs and knotted patterns a particularly intense effect. The lustre typical of silk gives the carpets the special shimmer for which the material is known.
Carpet care
To maintain the appearance of the carpet, regular vacuuming with a gentle hoover is recommended to remove dust and dirt from the fibres. Stains should be gently dabbed immediately with a clean, white cloth dampened with cold water to prevent damage. In addition, rotating the carpet regularly will help to promote even wear and prolong its life.
