The British Swiss company Ziegler began to have this type of oriental carpet knotted in Iran around 1870 in order to supply the European market of the time with hand-knotted oriental carpets. At that time, the company set up its own production facility for this purpose. Floral ornaments in an antique look have characterised the designs ever since. Today, production of this type of oriental carpet has moved from Iran to the Pakistani/Afghan border region of Peshawar. Just like Kazak oriental carpets, the oriental carpets are transported by truck to Karachi/Pakistan after production because Afghanistan does not have a port. From Karachi, Ziegler oriental carpets are exported all over the world.
