Pakistani craftsmen have adopted the tradition of carpet making and developed their own variations. The characteristic patterns of Bukhara rugs are often referred to as "Gul" or "Göl". They typically consist of geometric shapes such as octagonal medallions, diamonds and lattices. These patterns are arranged symmetrically and can appear in different colours, including red, burgundy, brown, beige and blue.
High-quality wool, often from Australia, is used to make these rugs and has a special lustre. The wool is hand-knotted on a cotton base. The knot density varies depending on the quality of the rug and can range from fine to coarse.
