Ziegler Farahan 430 x 310 cm

Ziegler, since 1870

Around 1870, the British-Swiss company Ziegler began commissioning this type of Oriental rug in Iran to supply the European market with high-quality hand-knotted rugs. Their characteristic floral ornaments in an antique style still give Ziegler rugs their elegant and timeless expression today. Production has since shifted to the Pakistani-Afghan border region around Peshawar. After completion, the rugs are brought into international trade via Karachi and exported worldwide.

Discover the history

Hand-knotted

Experienced artisans create every single knot on traditional looms — a technique that requires exceptional precision and many years of experience. Production extends across Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar, three cities with centuries-old knotting traditions. Fine materials and careful handwork define the durability and value of each piece.

Hand-spun wool

This rug is made from hand-spun wool — without chemical treatments or artificial additives. Thanks to the natural wool fats, the fibre is particularly durable and resistant to water and dirt. Its soft feel creates a warm atmosphere in the room and underlines the rug’s authentic character.

Care & preservation

Regular, gentle vacuuming helps preserve the appearance over the long term. Stains should be carefully blotted as soon as possible with a clean white cloth and cold water. Occasionally rotating the rug promotes even wear and can significantly extend its lifespan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about delivery, care and the quality of our rugs

When will my Oriental rug be delivered?

Delivery usually takes 2–5 business days. Orders placed before 3:00 p.m. are dispatched on the same day.

May I view the rug at home at my leisure?

You have a 31-day return period. This gives you enough time to see how the rug looks and feels in your own home.

How can I tell that the rug is hand-knotted?

A genuine hand-knotted rug can be recognised especially well from the back: the pattern appears slightly irregular and not perfectly machine-made. The individual knots are also visible – a clear sign of true handwork.

Will the rug suit my room and furnishings?

Size, colour and pattern have a strong influence on the overall effect in a room. If you are unsure, we will be pleased to advise you personally so the rug harmonises with your furniture, flooring and lighting conditions.

Why is a hand-knotted Oriental rug a valuable purchase?

Each rug is a unique piece created through elaborate handwork over weeks or even months. The combination of fine materials, traditional knotting artistry and considerable time investment makes it a durable and value-retaining furnishing piece.

What materials is this rug made from?

Depending on the model, our rugs are made from fine virgin wool, delicate silk or a particularly high-quality combination of materials. The exact details are stated transparently in the respective product description.

Are slight variations in colour or pattern normal?

Yes, slight variations are completely natural in hand-knotted rugs and are a sign of genuine craftsmanship. These subtle details give each piece its own distinctive character.

Is the rug suitable for underfloor heating?

Yes, all our rugs are suitable for rooms with underfloor heating and can be used without difficulty in appropriately equipped living areas.

How should I care for a high-quality Oriental rug in everyday use?

For everyday care, gentle vacuuming without a rotating brush is usually sufficient. Stains should be treated as promptly and carefully as possible to preserve the rug’s beauty and quality over the long term.

Is this rug a genuine one-of-a-kind piece?

Yes, hand-knotted rugs are always unique in their appearance. Even with similar designs, traditional production creates small individual differences that make each piece special.
